Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges play a crucial role in producing artisans with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a range of vocational and occupational careers. TVET college graduates are also well-placed to start a business and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.

There are fifty TVET colleges around South Africa. Many of these TVET colleges have multiple campuses which ensures they can provide vocational and occupational education and training to individuals in all corners of the country.

Tshwane South TVET College

Tshwane South TVET College was the product of a merger of three former Technical Colleges namely Atteridgeville, Centurion and Pretoria West. In 2006, the college gained its fourth Campus (Odi Campus) from Orbit TVET College as a result of the rezoning of the Provincial borders.

They aim to provide South Africa's young people with vocational and occupationally directed skills at the intermediate level of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

This mission aims to contribute to two important objectives, the eradication of inequality, poverty, and unemployment among the people of South Africa and the promotion of economic growth initiatives within the country.

TVET College Courses

In South Africa's public TVET Colleges, you can pursue either NATED or NC(V) qualifications:

NATED (National Qualification Courses or Report 191 NATED courses): These are post-school courses designed to provide specialised education in specific fields.

  • To enrol in NATED N4-N6 courses, you typically need to have already obtained a Matric certificate.
  • These qualifications extend up to NQF Level 6, encompassing practical and theoretical teaching methods.

NC(V) (National Certificate Vocational): NC(V) courses are tailored for students who want to acquire practical skills outside the traditional school environment.

  • They are especially suitable for those who have decided on a career path and do not require a traditional high school experience.
  • Completing an NC(V) qualification results in obtaining a Matric certificate.
  • NC(V) qualifications allow students to become self-employed after obtaining their certificates and typically extend up to NQF Level 4, equivalent to Matric.
