Three second-year Occupational Certificate (OC) Chef students from Muizenberg Campus showcased their culinary talent on a national stage at the World Koeksister Day Competition, held on 4 September 2026 at Makers Landing, V&A Waterfront.

Students Amber Williams, Chelsea Hendricks, and Kiare Arendse proudly represented the campus, demonstrating creativity, innovation and technical skill as they developed their own interpretation of a Rooibos-infused koeksister.

Their outstanding performances earned notable recognition, with:
2nd Place – Kiare Arendse
3rd Place – Amber Williams

All three students represented the campus with distinction, embracing the challenge and showcasing their passion for the culinary arts.

With Heritage Day being observed later this month, the timing of the World Koeksister Day Competition could not have been more fitting. Celebrating one of South Africa's most cherished traditional treats, the competition highlighted the enduring popularity of the
koeksister and its place in the country's rich and diverse culinary heritage.

Through their innovative Rooibos-infused creations, Muizenberg Campus students not only showcased their culinary talents but also paid tribute to a treasured South African favourite enjoyed across communities and generations.

"We are incredibly proud of Amber, Chelsea and Kiare for embracing this opportunity and representing Muizenberg Campus with professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm," said Mariaana Herne. "Their achievements reflect the quality of training, dedication and talent being developed through our Occupational Certificate Chef programme."

A special acknowledgement goes to Mrs Kannemeyer, whose preparation, mentorship and unwavering support played a pivotal role in the students' success. Her guidance and encouragement helped the students confidently take on the challenge and excel in a highly competitive environment.

The students were also cheered on by family members who attended the event, adding to the celebratory atmosphere and supporting them every step of the way.

Adding further excitement to the occasion, eNCA attended the event and interviewed Kiare Arendse. Beyond achieving excellent competition results, the event provided students with valuable industry exposure, networking opportunities and a platform to showcase the skills being developed through the Occupational Certificate Chef programme.

Their success is a testament to the talent, dedication and bright future of South Africa's next generation of culinary professionals.
