The government has made bursaries available, in an effort to help out students who are in need of financial aid. The list of bursaries is usually made available on your provincial government website.
Here are the Government Bursaries Available Every Year :
NSFAS
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary that provides funding to students who come from poor or working-class backgrounds.
The bursary scheme will cover expenses such as fees, registration, accommodation, transport and books which are made available in the form of NSFAS allowances.

Funza Lushaka Bursary
The Funza Lushaka Bursary is available to students who would like to become teachers. The bursary funds two programmes namely the 4-year Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) or the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
The bursary provides a fixed bursary allowance that covers student tuition fees, accommodation, meals, learning material, and basic living expenses.

Gauteng City-Region Academy (GCRA)
The GCRA bursary programme is open to students who wish to study for an undergraduate and/or post-graduate programme at an accredited and registered Post School Education and Training institution in South Africa.
The bursary covers the full cost of study including registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation costs and books

Masakh'iSizwe Bursary
Masakh’iSizwe offers bursaries to disadvantaged students for full-time studies towards a degree or diploma in the transport, engineering and built environment disciplines. Preference will be given, but not limited to persons with disabilities, the financially disadvantaged, female learners and applicants from rural areas of South Africa.
The bursary covers tuition fees, support programmes, accommodation, meals, books and learning materials.

Provincial Treasury Bursary
The Western Cape Provincial Treasury provides bursaries to Grade 12 learners, post Grade 12 learners and undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in economics, accounting, finance, auditing and supply chain management.

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Bursary
The CoJ is offering bursaries to South African youth, who permanently reside in Johannesburg, to pursue full-time undergraduate studies.
The bursary covers tuition and registration fees, prescribed books and/or study material and is limited to the amount of R 35 000 per academic year.

Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA)
The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) offers bursaries for students intending to study towards a qualification as a chartered accountant at universities accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
The bursary will cover tuition fees, university accommodation, meals and books.
