Being accepted to study at an institution of higher learning is your first step in the door, as all that you had aspired to be, will soon be a reality.
Now, if you're stressing over funding for your tuition fees, there are different funding options.
Unisa has confirmed that it does not give study loans to students, but have the following funding options for its students:
- Privately sourced funding
- NSFAS funding
- Funds availed from the university
It is important to note that the university is able to fund its students when there is sufficient funding. These funds are available, starting at the undergraduate level.
Unisa spokesperson, Victor Dlamini said the institution has a significant budget to cater for bursaries for post-graduate students.
We contacted the university to find out its funding criteria, this is what Unisa spokesperson, Victor Dlamini had to say:
Each funding pool has its criteria. For example, in the case of Honours Degree studies, students have to obtain an overall average of 60% on their junior degree. For Masters and Doctoral studies, students must have passed the proposal module and should be progressing well in their research.
The university makes an announcement a week prior to the application period for each fund. This communication becomes available on Unisa’s various official communication platforms, including its social media accounts.
Unisa said students who were unable to pay their tuition fees for the previous academic year and want to register for the new academic year are not automatically declined or registered.
This cohort of students ought to complete an Acknowledgement of Debt form, through which they agree to settle their outstanding debt.
According to the university, each case is assessed on its own merit.
