The deadline for 2024 school applications in the Western Cape passed on Friday 14 April 2023, However, if you still want to submit your child’s school application, you can still do so because late applications are now open.
The Western Cape Education Department has advised parents to submit their late applications as soon as possible because the closing deadline is on Thursday 25 May 2023
It is imperative that parents do not delay applying any further. By doing so, it will affect our planning processes and could result in delays in placing your child.
It is also worth noting that applications that are submitted after the deadline will all be deemed late applications. Only after taking into account the applications that were submitted on time, will schools consider these applications. Applications can be submitted online by visiting the WCED’s website.
Additionally, the department has reminded parents that they do not need to submit their certified hard copies just yet. They won't have to do this until after they've accepted an offer from a school as their preferred choice after receiving one.
During the now-closed application period, the WCED received applications 156 150 learners for the 2024 school year. Meanwhile, parents who applied for more than one school for their children, came to a total of 503 763 individual applications for placement and transfer to schools.
The department has also reminded parents to accept or decline received offers as soon as possible since failure to do so will result in the system automatically confirming the top school that has made an offer to them. Parents will be able to start seeing the outcome of their applications from 29 May 2023.
Furthermore, parents who requested technical support from the WCED’s admissions team before the deadline will be regarded as having submitted their application on time.
