The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will open the Central Application Clearing House System (CACH) in the next month. This will provide learners who didn't apply for tertiary education the opportunity to study in 2024.
What is CACH?
Through CACH, you can receive career advice, referral to other opportunities such as being referred to other universities, TVET college opportunities, artisan development opportunities and other possibilities. They'll also help you if you're not sure about where you should study or which career you want to follow.
The CACH service for 2024 will be open from 8am on 26 January 2024 until 31 March 2024. Learners who have completed Grade 12 from 2000 onwards will be eligible to sign-up.
You can access CACH in various ways once it opens for applications:
- Website: https://cach.cas.ac.za/
- Call centre Number: 0860 690 722
- Facebook: CACH_SA
The service provides an opportunity to learners who have not yet received a place to study at a post-school higher education institution.
CACH is FREE and aims to match applicants' National Senior Certificate exam results (which is received directly from the Department of Basic Education) and study preferences with places that need to be filled.
The CACH service is provided by the Department of Higher Education and Training as a free service to both applicants and institutions. Since 2013 it has helped thousands of aspirant students find places at institutions of higher learning.
This service guarantees that a learners data will be made available to all possible institutions in the Post School Education and Training (PSET) sector. However, learners who register on the system cannot be guaranteed that they will be offered a place at an institution.
Public universities, TVET colleges, SETA’s and private colleges will access the CACH database via the website (self-service portal) to search for individuals that meet the criteria of the spaces still available.
The system will send SMS or e-mails to those that are made an offer for them to accept or reject the offer. Once the offer has been accepted, Institutions will directly contact those who accepted the offer.
The information drawn from the CACH will be treated with the same level of confidentiality as that of direct applicants by institutions and there will be compliance with the protection of the personal information act of 2013.
