The University of South Africa (Unisa) has opened 2025 applications for Masters and Doctoral qualifications. Prospective students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

The 2025 Unisa Masters and Doctoral application period officially opened on Monday, 2 September 2024 and will close on 22 November 2024. This gives prospective students just over 80 days to submit their Unisa applications.

As an Open Distance e-learning (ODeL) institution, Unisa offers flexible learning options, allowing students to study independently from the comfort of their homes. The university's online examination system further enhances its accessibility.

These factors make Unisa a popular choice among individuals wanting to further their studies making it imperative for prospective students to submit their applications early to avoid disappointment.

You are encouraged to apply for admission as soon as possible, as qualifications will be removed from the application list once all available spaces for the 2025 academic year have been filled.

The university also encouraged current students enrolled at the institution to apply during this application period if they wish to further their studies at Unisa in 2025.

Final-year honours, postgraduate diploma and master’s degree students are advised to make use of the opportunity to submit their applications before the closing date if they plan to further their studies in 2025.

Who Must Apply For Admission?

Applications are required from all individuals intending to start a new qualification. This includes:

  • First-time Unisa applicants.
  • Current Unisa students seeking a new qualification.
  • Students completing their current qualifications and aiming to begin a master's or doctoral degree.
  • Previously registered master's and doctoral students who did not enrol in the 2024 academic year but wish to continue their studies.

Unlike undergraduate Unisa applications, Applicants are limited to applying for only one qualification at the master's and doctoral level.

It’s therefore essential for the applicant to ensure they meet the minimum admission requirements for their chosen qualification before applying. If a second application is submitted, it will automatically replace the first one.

Those applying for qualifications through the Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) must first apply for a Unisa student number unless they have previously studied at Unisa towards a formal qualification. The entire application process is conducted online.

If you are applying for admission to a Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) qualification, please apply for a Unisa student number (unless you previously studied at Unisa towards a formal qualification) and complete the online application process.

For any questions related to master's and doctoral applications, prospective students should reach out via email to [email protected]. GSBL applicants should direct their inquiries to the specific email addresses provided: [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected].

Unisa encourages all prospective students to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
