The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has released the 2025 Eligibility Criteria and Conditions for the NSFAS Student Loan Scheme, detailing the allowances to which students receiving NSFAS loans will be entitled.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. Funding covers tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

While many of the allowances provided to bursary recipients are also available to NSFAS loan recipients, there is one allowance that is not.

Which Allowances Won’t Be Included In NSFAS Loans

NSFAS loans are designed to assist eligible students with the core costs of their studies, including tuition fees, learning materials, and an accommodation allowance.

The government bursary scheme confirmed that transportation costs are not covered by the NSFAS loan.

The loan provided will cover tuition, books, and accommodation allowances only. Transport allowance is not provided for as part of the loan funding.

Students will be responsible for covering their own transportation expenses, including travel to and from the institution and any travel required for academic purposes.
