What do you do when you want to study Sports and Fitness Science but don’t have the financial support to attend university? If you’re Octavia Moyo you evolve quickly and problem-solve by getting a part time job tutoring Afrikaans and Maths and keep looking for other opportunities.
Through a stroke of luck, Octavia’s boss told her about the programme at WeThinkCode_ and she lost no time in applying and is now a student. Her family lives in Ferndale, and she stays in the Urban Einstein Res, commuting to the WTC campus.
“I love software programming and feel that although the world is evolving quickly, with tech I can evolve with it – tech will always be a part of the future. I’m not sure about exactly what I want to specialise in, so I’m keeping my options open and focusing on my studies at WeThinkCode_.”
As a lover of music and poetry, Octavia has a creative side which she taps into to write poems about other people’s heartbreak. “I am very into R&B and soul and I read investigative fiction and thrillers. I also love all kinds of sport and have played netball, soccer, rugby and tennis and done athletics and cross country running.”
That’s the beauty of WeThinkCode_ . The academy’s innovative approach to recruitment, brings in diverse youth with different skills and experiences. This contributes to building diverse pools of talent to service the ever growing demand for digital skills. Regardless of which field she ends up specialising in, Octavia knows tech will always be a part of the future
