With thousands of students, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is the first choice for higher education in KwaZulu-Natal. Applications to study at the Durban University of Technology in 2026 are open now. 

The Durban University of Technology is a technical university that offers many different departments as well as short courses. Applications to study at the University are now open for 2026.

Planning a successful career at DUT does not have to be a vague dream. Prospective students can make it a reality. 

DUT applications for 2026 programmes will close on 30 September.

How To Apply

Applications to study at DUT are done through the Central Applications Office (CAO). CAO applications must be done online.

Here's a guide on how to submit a CAO online application

  1. Go to the CAO website
  2. Read How to use the programme list
  3. Refer to the summary of codes used
  4. Use the 'Index' to find which page the programme is on
  5. Click on 'Apply' on top 
  6. Go to Apply Now
  7. Complete the application by filling all required details and following the prompts
  8. Print out the declaration and deposit slip
  9. Pay application fee
  10. Attach required documents and proof of payment to the form of declaration
  11. Post to CAO OR hand in at CAO offices
  12. Keep receipt and make a note of CAO number and password in order to track your application status later

CAO application fees work a bit different. This means that you pay R250 for South Africans citizens and R300 for international applicants and this will cover all the applications done for all Universities in the province, using CAO.

How To Track Your Application

  1. Go to the CAO Website
  2. Click on My Application
  3. Fill in details and follow the prompts
  4. You should be able to view your status then

Does NSFAS Fund Durban University of Technology Students?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a funding scheme that provides for poor students that wish to continue studying at a tertiary institution. 

Durban University of Technology is one of the tertiary institutions that they cover as they cover all 26 Public Universities in South Africa.

So if you are a DUT student that requires funding, NSFAS can help you. There is however a list of NSFAS requirements that need to be met in order to be funded by NSFAS
