Key Responsibilities:
As a Veterinary Nurse Intern, your duties will include:
- Assisting with patient care, including monitoring, feeding, handling, and supporting procedures
- Managing daily clinic operations, including hygiene, stock control, pharmacy orders, and equipment care
- Supporting the practical training of veterinary students and student nurses
- Communicating professionally with clients, private practitioners, sales representatives, and visiting students
- Assisting with demonstrations and practical tasks, such as drip preparation
- Ensuring adherence to biosecurity and safety standards
- Being flexible and available to work in various departments within the hospital
- Performing shift work, including weekends and after-hours as needed
Minimum Requirements:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must:
- Hold a BVetNurse qualification
- Be registered as a Veterinary Nurse with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC)
Key Competencies and Skills:
- Knowledge of small and large animal nursing procedures
- Understanding of ICU, diagnostic imaging, and theatre equipment
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and within a team
- Good physical mobility and willingness to perform shift and weekend duties
- Computer literacy
- Professionalism and attention to detail
Added Advantages:
Membership with the Veterinary Nursing Association of South Africa (VNASA) will be a strong recommendation
