Sappi is offering a one-year GIS Internship Programme for recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the forestry sector.

This opportunity is based at the Shaw Research Centre in Tweedie and is ideal for graduates in Geoinformatics, Geography or Environmental Science who want to build a career in spatial data analysis.

About The Sappi GIS Internship

The internship provides hands-on experience in analysing and managing spatial data to support operations within Sappi’s Forestry division. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced mentors who will support their professional development throughout the programme.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to real-world GIS applications and develop technical skills in a professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be involved in the following:

Investigating and analysing spatial data requirements.

Providing solutions to spatial data challenges within the business.

Maintaining and updating spatial datasets.

Performing spatial analysis using GIS tools.

Supporting business units with spatial queries and data requests.

Conducting basic remote sensing analysis.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

A Degree in Geoinformatics, Geography or a related field with GIS as a major subject.

No prior work experience is required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
