Rand Water Experiential Training Programme 2025 – Apply Now

Rand Water is inviting applications for its 15-month Experiential Training Programme at the Scientific Services Department in Vereeniging, Gauteng. 

This internship opportunity is designed for students who have completed their theoretical studies and now require practical workplace experience to obtain their National Diploma in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences or Analytical Chemistry.

Location: Vereeniging, Gauteng

Duration: 15 months

Available Fields:

  • Chemistry (3 positions)
  • Microbiology (3 positions)
  • Hydrobiology (1 position)
  • Quality (1 position)

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed Matric and two years of theoretical training towards a National Diploma in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID document.
  • Applicants must be under 35 years old in line with the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS).
  • Applicants must not have participated in any previous experiential learning programme.
  • Must require practical workplace experience to complete a National Diploma qualification.

  • Application letter and comprehensive CV.
  • A recommendation letter from your tertiary institution confirming you need 12 months of workplace training.
  • Certified copy of your ID document.
  • Certified copies of your academic record and training results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply the basic principles of ISO 17025 in laboratory work.
  • Collect water samples for quality monitoring and analysis.
  • Prepare media, reagents, chemicals and samples as required.
  • Perform analytical testing and accurately record results.
  • Maintain and document quality control processes.
  • Ensure correct maintenance of equipment, instrumentation and biological cultures.
  • Follow SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) standards and good housekeeping practices.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid theoretical understanding of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good planning, organisation and time management abilities.

Personal Attributes

  • Self-motivated and results-driven.
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle routine work under pressure.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Professional attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
