How To Complete Your Wits Registration

Step one is getting accepted at the University of the Witwatersrand. The next step to becoming an actual student is doing your Wits registration. Here's how to register online.

Students at The University of The Witwatersrand (Wits) are able to register online from home using the Self-Service Portal. However, if you are unable to complete your registration online or need assistance, you may register at Assisted Registration on campus. 

Each faculty has their own registration deadlines for online and assisted registration. If you do not complete your registration by these dates, your offer may be withdrawn.

You will need to provide the following information when registering online:

  • confirmation of personal details
  • medical aid details if applicable
  • an indication of your household income, should you require financial assistance
  • the courses you will be registering for

Step one: Make sure you are cleared for registration

New students will need to accept their Firm Offer before registering online. Make sure that all required documents, such as hard copies of academic qualifications and certified documents have been provided to the Student Enrolment Centre.

Step two: Check the registration deadlines for your faculty

You can find these dates on the Self-Service Portal

Step three: Go to the Wits Self-Service Portal

You will need to log in with your student number and password and click 'Sign in'.

Step four: Click on "register online"

Step five: Complete all the relevant information

This includes medical aid details and a financial declaration section.

Step six: Accept the terms and conditions and verify your personal details.

Once you have done this click "register online". 

Step seven: Choose modules

For fixed curriculum: 

  1. Select courses and slots
  2. Click 'validate'
  3. Click 'Enrol'
  4. Accept the terms and conditions
  5. Click 'Submit'

For flexible curriculum:

  1. Click on 'Choices'
  2. Select 'Courses'
  3. Click 'Add to the planner'
  4. Click 'Return'
  5. Click 'validate'
  6. Click 'Enrol'
  7. Accept the terms and conditions
  8. Click 'Submit'

You should now be registered.
