When applying for a job a CV is the most important document that you will need, so it is important that you know how to create an outstanding CV.
It is a document which contains information regarding your education, skills, achievements and experiences which is necessary when a potential employer is considering you for an open position.
If you've recently graduated from high school then you will not be expected to have a detailed description of your employment history as one would in a formal CV, but other information will be key.
Here are a few key points that need to be in your CV:
- A CV/ Curriculum Vitae heading
- All names and surnames
- Residential Address
- Contact Details (email address, phone number, etc.)
- A short introductory piece about yourself as the applicant (This piece is a summary of all of your best skills related to the job you're applying for)
- Objectives (what you would like to achieve at this potential role/ why you may want the role)
- Education, qualifications and achievements (i.e. your matric certificate, extra course, outstanding achievement in subjects, etc.)
- Your skillset (These skills could have been developed through extra-curricular activities you've been apart of at school. Include those that will especially prove essential for the role you have applied for)
- Reference contact details or testimonials from people who can verify what you may claim in your CV.
- Copies of documents attached (if applicable)
It is important that you keep your CV as short and concise as possible by limiting it to around two to three pages.
Make sure that you proofread the document and ensure that you have used the correct grammar and spelling, used short paragraphs and bullet points for lists and kept your CV easy to read.
