Are you planning to study Mine Surveying or Geomatics in 2027? Valterra Platinum is inviting eligible students to apply for its Geomatics (Mine Surveying) Bursary Programme, offering comprehensive financial support and career development opportunities within South Africa's mining industry.

This bursary programme is aimed at students entering their first year of study in 2027, as well as final-year undergraduate students who intend to pursue Honours studies in Geomatics or Mine Surveying.

Valterra Platinum is one of the world's leading producers of platinum group metals (PGMs), with mining, processing and refining operations across Southern Africa.

Through its bursary programme, the company aims to support the development of future mining professionals while providing students with practical industry exposure and long-term career opportunities.

Successful bursary recipients will study full-time at university and, upon completion of their qualifications, may be placed in Valterra Platinum's graduate programme, which includes rotations across various areas of the company's mining value chain.

Number Of Bursaries Available

Valterra Platinum is offering four bursary opportunities for the 2027 academic year.

What The Bursary Covers

The bursary provides comprehensive financial and developmental support to help students succeed academically and professionally.

Fields Of Study

The bursary is available to students pursuing qualifications in:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Surveying).
  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mine Surveying.

 

Candidate Requirements

Valterra Platinum is accepting applications from:

  • Grade 12 learners planning to begin their first year of study in 2027.
  • Final-year undergraduate students intending to enrol for Honours studies in 2027.

Minimum Requirements For First-Year Students

Applicants currently in Grade 12 must:

  • Have provisional or final university acceptance for one of the eligible qualifications.
  • Submit Grade 11 final results or the latest available Grade 12 results.
  • Achieve a minimum overall academic average of 65%.
  • Provide supporting documents highlighting achievements and extracurricular activities.

Minimum Requirements For Honours Applicants

Final-year undergraduate students must:

  • Be studying towards a relevant surveying or mine surveying qualification.
  • Intend to pursue an Honours qualification in 2027.
  • Have achieved a minimum average of 65% in their latest academic results.
  • Submit full academic transcripts.
  • Provide proof of Honours acceptance once available.

Required Supporting Documents

To ensure an application is considered, applicants must submit all required documentation.

Applications must include:

  • A detailed curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Information on extracurricular activities, leadership roles or volunteer work.
  • Full academic transcripts for all years of study completed.
  • Proof of address (municipal account or letter from a local tribal authority).
