NSFAS 2025 applications have been open for just over a month. The total amount funding applications received by NSFAS is nearing half of a million. 


In 2024, the Department of Higher Education confirmed that missing-middle students will receive tertiary education funding from the government. A billion rand payment has been made. 


Thousands of student rely on NSFAS funding while pursing their tertiary education goals. NSFAS confirmed the allowance payment values for November 2024. 


NSFAS has routinely failed to submit financial statements to parliament on time. NSFAS says universities and TVET colleges of being responsible for the delays. 

 


More than R1 Billion has been recovered from higher education institutions by the Special Investigating Unit. This figure is set to increase after the President gave the greenlight for the unit to carry out further investigations. 


NSFAS funding ensures that thousands of students can obtain tertiary education qualifications. However, many students who applied for funding were rejected. 


Applications for NSFAS funding continues to stream in as thousands of students require funding for 2025. The scheme has sent a warning to all students looking to apply for NSFAS bursaries and loans. 


The cost of tertiary education is high and many families simply cannot afford to absorb these costs. Applications for NSFAS loans are now available.
