The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has made an announcement about where Social Relief of Distress clients may access their funds.

In an announcement, the Agency said:

If your application status is approved and you have a payment date, you may collect the funds at merchants/retail outlets.

Sassa spokesperson, Pasika Letsatsi has advised clients to use payment channels such as supermarkets (Boxer, Pick ‘n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, USave) and to make withdrawals using their Gold Sassa/Sapo card.

SRD grant clients are urged to bring their ID documents and cellphone, which were used when applying for their first grant because a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to the beneficiaries' cellphone to withdraw their funds, according to Sassa.

The South African Post Office (Sapo) has clarified that clients that will be using a supermarket for withdrawals will receive the full value of the grant down to the last cent.

The Gold Sassa/Sapo card can be used at all ATMs across the country and where an ATM is used, the bank owning the ATM will levy a fee.

According to Letsatsi, both Sapo and Sassa employees will be available to assist clients with the payment channels.
