NSFAS applications for the 2026 academic year closed in December 2025. If you made an application and it wasn't finalised you can still update your application now.
However there will be no general late application period for students who want funding for this year. So if you didn't apply at all, there is no way to apply now.
Beware of fake news which states that you can make a late application. There is a new website that has been setup called Daily Updates and they featured a 'news story' that late applications had opened. The official NSFAS communication confirmed that this is fake news.
The only applications that will be available this year will be for 2nd semester and 2 trimester studies at TVET Colleges. There will be no late applications for full-year programmes at TVET Colleges or universities.
If you think you aren't able to apply for 2026 funding it is worth checking with the fees office at the college or university where you want to study. They will be able to advise you on whether you qualify this year or not. They will also know which other funding sources are available.
