The Missing Middle refers to those students who are considered too rich to qualify for NSFAS funding but too poor to pay their fees out their own pockets. This group typically earns between R3,501 and R22,000 per month.
Household income for the missing middle is usually between R350 000 and R600 000, which is above the NSFAS bursary requirements. For this reason NSFAS has introduced a Loan option for students who fall into the Missing Middle category.
Another popular option for students and families who fall into this group is the ISFAP bursary.
