Unisa offers the following qualifications in Social Work :

Higher Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work 

Students need to be registered with the SACSSP at the start of their studies. The Department of Social Work at UNISA will facilitate registration with the Council at the time of registration or as soon as possible after registration.

This qualification will equip learners with the knowledge and skills needed become a social auxiliary worker. This course will also help develop the competencies of the students which will enable them to provide support services in focused areas of work.

The qualification will allow the student to register with the SA Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Auxiliary Worker.

Bachelor of Social Work 

This qualification will ensure that all the students are well prepared to enhance the quality of life for all by means of social development and transformation through acquired knowledge, skills and values.

The Bachelor of Social Work will equip students with methods and tactics to help improve the outcomes of people who are dealing with the consequences of social inequality, exclusion, poverty and marginalization through evidence-based interventions.

The Bachelors degree of Social Work is a 4 year accredited course which is a NQF level 8 qualification. This qualification is presented via distance learning.

Students will not be able to register for either of these courses if they do not have a Police Clearance and Two Testimonials. The training you will receive during this qualification in social work provides you with the skills needed for a variety of work contexts.

These include education, human resources, employee assistance programmes, public health administration, labor relations, advocacy organizations, and legal settings.
