SAA IT Graduate Internship Programme Now Open in Gauteng

South African Airways (SAA) is inviting applications for its IT Graduate Internship Programme, offering graduates the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience within the airline’s Technical Division.

This internship is based in Kempton Park, Gauteng and is aimed at developing strong foundational skills in information technology, systems support and digital infrastructure within a dynamic aviation environment.

About the IT Graduate Internship at SAA

The IT Graduate Intern will provide technical support under the guidance of experienced IT administrators and the AMEP Project Manager. The role focuses on building core competencies in IT support, systems administration, cybersecurity awareness, data reporting and technology infrastructure.

This internship is designed to equip graduates with hands-on experience while supporting SAA’s digital tools, management information systems, data integrity and overall technology operations.

Key Responsibilities

IT Support and Troubleshooting

Provide technical support to staff on hardware, software and connectivity issues.

Set up and configure laptops, mobile devices and peripherals for employees.

Systems Administration Support

Assist with user account creation, access control and permission management.

Support routine system maintenance, including updates, backups and patching.

Monitor basic system performance and report potential issues to IT administrators.

Help maintain shared drives, collaboration tools and internal platforms.

Data and Reporting Support

Assist with data extraction, cleaning and basic analysis for reporting purposes.

Support troubleshooting on internal systems and dashboards.

Conduct routine data quality checks and identify inconsistencies.

Cybersecurity and Compliance

Apply basic cybersecurity practices and ensure devices meet security standards.

Support IT audits and compliance checks, including password controls and backups.

Promote safe technology use and data protection awareness among staff.

Project and Administrative Support

Contribute to IT projects such as system rollouts, software implementations and upgrades.

Assist with developing training materials, user guides and process documentation.

Maintain IT inventory and coordinate with vendors and shared service providers where required.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.

Previous internship or practical experience is advantageous but not required.

Basic knowledge of hardware, software, networking and cloud-based systems is required.

Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or Teams will be beneficial.

Required Skills and Attributes

Understanding of operating systems such as Windows and macOS.

Basic networking knowledge, including Wi-Fi and IP addressing.

Awareness of cybersecurity principles and good digital hygiene.

Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

Good communication skills with a customer-service mindset.

Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.

A proactive attitude, willingness to learn and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
