Responsibilities

As a Trainee Planner, you will follow a structured learning journey that combines theory and practical experience. Under guidance and mentorship, you will gain the ability to plan the right merchandise for the right stores at the right time, while developing a strong understanding of financial measures including sales, stock, and profit.

Key Learning Areas

  • Understand and apply knowledge of factors influencing trade performance, and manage opportunities and risks accordingly.
  • Optimise stock levels in line with the critical path and achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Contribute to building product assortments based on trade performance, seasonal strategy, and post-mortem reviews.
  • Learn how to forecast financial plans, track sales, orders, stock, and markdowns, and highlight variances.
  • Extract and analyse financial KPIs and product performance by season, category, and sub-category.
  • Assist in re-forecasting and compiling trade performance reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct regular competitive store visits and provide insights and action plans based on findings.
  • Collaborate with the buying and location planning teams to build assortment plans and maintain systems.
  • Assist with order placement, product allocation, and ensuring deadlines are met accurately and timeously.

Qualifications Required

Applicants must hold a Degree or Diploma in one of the following fields:

  • Business Science
  • Accounting
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Strategic Management
  • Supply Chain

Additional skills and attributes:

  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities
  • Negotiation and presentation skills
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry (advantageous)
