Are you a young South African looking to gain real work experience and build your future career? The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) is inviting applications for its 2026 Youth Employment Service (YES) internship Programme. They are offering a one-year paid opportunity designed to help unemployed youth develop valuable skills and professional experience.

About the Programme

South Africa continues to face a high youth unemployment rate — with 45.5% of young people aged 15 to 34 currently unemployed, compared to the national average of 32.9% (Q1 2024). The GIBS YES Programme aims to tackle this challenge by providing practical workplace experience to equip young people with the tools they need to thrive in the job market.

Through this 12-month programme, which runs from January 2026 to January 2027, participants will gain hands-on experience in a professional environment, earn a monthly stipend, and develop skills that open doors to future employment.

Benefits of Joining the GIBS YES Programme

  • Real Work Experience: Build practical skills in a dynamic, real-world environment.
  • Career Growth: Strengthen your CV and gain exposure to professional work practices.
  • Networking Opportunities: Collaborate with industry professionals and like-minded peers.
  • Earn While You Learn: Receive a stipend while developing skills that improve your employability.

Who Can Apply?

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Be unemployed.
  • Be aged between 18 and 35 (not turning 35 before 31 December 2025).
  • Be a South African citizen by birth or naturalisation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must not have participated in a YES Programme previously.
