The Council for Geoscience is offering three 24-month Human Resources internships at its Pretoria head office, providing a hands-on foundation for your HR career. 

Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of R13 000 and report to the Manager: Human Resources, gaining exposure across recruitment, administration, learning and development, employee relations, and project support.

Why This Internship Matters

As an HR intern at the Council for Geoscience, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the Human Resources Business Unit running smoothly. You’ll screen applications, coordinate interviews, and prepare recruitment packs—accelerating your understanding of talent acquisition.

On the administration side, you’ll assist with payroll tasks, benefits administration, database updates, and the organisation of internal events and meetings, building the operational skills every HR professional needs.

Key Learning Opportunities

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: From pre-employment screening to drafting offer letters and onboarding documentation, you’ll support every step of the hiring process.
  • HR Administration: Maintain accurate employee files, update HR systems, and assist with payroll and benefits—experiences that sharpen your attention to detail and data management skills.
  • Learning & Development: Help organise training sessions and development initiatives, gaining insight into how companies upskill their workforce.
  • Employee Relations & Projects: Assist with employee-relations activities and support HR projects such as performance-management rollouts and wellness programmes, giving you a broad view of strategic HR functions.
  • Quality & Compliance: Work within ISO standards and ensure adherence to organisational policies as well as key labour laws, including the BCEA, LRA, EEA, and SDA.

Who Should Apply

Ideal candidates will have:

  •     A Grade 12 certificate plus an NQF Level 5 qualification in Human Resources Management, Human Resources Development, or an equivalent field.
  •     No prior work experience required—perfect for recent graduates eager to launch an HR career.
  •     Strong organisational skills, a knack for meeting deadlines, and aptitude for report writing.
  •     Excellent interpersonal communication, business-level fluency in English, and proficient computer literacy (MS Office).
  •     A willingness to learn, analytical mindset, and a positive, “can-do” attitude.
