City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary Programme 2026 Now Open
The City of Ekurhuleni is inviting applications for its Community Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. The bursary programme is aimed at supporting academically deserving students who want to pursue full-time undergraduate studies.
This initiative seeks to help talented young people access higher education while also developing skills that support the city’s future municipal service delivery needs.

Fields Of Study Supported
The City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary Programme will fund students studying in the following priority fields:
Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Town and Regional Planning or Architecture.
Environmental Science.
Finance, Accounting and Auditing.
Information Technology, Computer Science or Data Science.
Health Sciences.
Only qualifications offered by accredited South African universities, universities of technology and TVET colleges will be considered.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the bursary programme:
Be a South African citizen residing within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof of residence is required).
Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
Have completed Grade 12.
Have received an acceptance letter or proof of registration for the 2026 academic year.
Provide proof of total monthly household income.
Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies (not older than three months) of the following documents:
South African ID document.
Matric certificate.
Acceptance letter or proof of registration from an accredited institution.
Proof of residence within the City of Ekurhuleni (not older than three months).
A motivation letter (maximum one page).
Proof of household income, such as salary slips or a stamped bank statement with an affidavit.
Proof of social grant if applicable.
What The Bursary Covers
The bursary is renewable each year based on the student’s academic performance and the availability of funds.
Funding may cover the following expenses:
Registration and tuition fees.
Prescribed textbooks.
Accommodation and meals where applicable.
Bursary Conditions
Students who receive the bursary will be required to comply with several conditions set by the City of Ekurhuleni.
Successful applicants must sign a bursary contract with the municipality.
Bursary recipients must maintain a minimum annual academic average of 70% to continue receiving funding.
Students may also be required to complete vacation work within municipal departments during their studies.
The City of Ekurhuleni reserves the right to withdraw the bursary in cases of poor academic performance or misconduct.
Students studying at TVET colleges are also encouraged to apply.
