South Africa's unemployment rate hit a record high in 2021, according to Statistics South Africa. However, things have since turned around for the country’s labour force.

Former employees under the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative are encouraged to apply for UIF as they meet the eligibility requirements. The Initiative is an effort by government to reduce the high rates of unemployment in the country, especially amongst the youth.

Thousands of former teaching assistants are being encouraged to apply for unemployment relief. This is because they meet the criteria needed to be eligible to receive unemployment relief from a government agency.

Earlier this month, the Unemployment Insurance Fund sent out a notice to former teachers assistants and general workers living in the KwaZulu- Natal province that they would be entitled to claim unemployment benefits again.

Former teaching and general assistants living in the KwaZulu-Natal province will be entitled to claim unemployment benefits again, following an announcement made by the labour department.

Former candidates of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative have recently had their UIF applications approved and paid millions. This comes as the department is looking to begin the fourth phase of the initiative.
