What is the Sassa SRD Grant?

The Social Relief of Distress Grant in South Africa, also know as the Sassa SRD R350 grant or the SRD R350 grant was introduced to assist South African citizens with no regular job or other grant income. The grant is governed under the Social Assistance Act, providing financial assistance to vulnerable South African citizens in the form of social security benefits.

It sees beneficiaries receive R350 per month.

Should you have been rejected from the grant, you can submit an SRD appeal.

The much-anticipated Basic Income Grant could be coming soon to South Africa. The Department of Social Development has given the go-ahead for the grant to come into effect, much to the relief of millions of South Africans seeking government assistance.

Concerns have been raised about the R350 grant not being enough to sustain its recipients. President Cyril Ramaphosa has shed light on this issue and offered an explanation.

The National Treasury of South Africa has been hinting that it may hit a financial wall when it comes to disbursing the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. The grant has been a lifeline for millions of South Africa's poorest citizens, with the grant's payout amount recently gaining an increase.
