School Hosts Gender Based Violence Discussion Amongst Boys

During the afternoon of 25 October, 2022, the Free State Department of Basic Education hosted a "boys dialogue" at a school in the town of Virginia.
The discussion was aimed at adolescent boys to "prevent and not react to cases of GBV [Gender-Based Violence]".
Minister of Higher Education, Innovation and Technology, Blade Nzimande, called for the correcting of the toxic mindsets our society enables in young men and boys during a speech at the Ministerial Higher Health Roundtable on Youth Health and Wellness in August this year.
"At the centre of my argument is the necessity to grapple with formation of masculinities in our families, communities and society as a whole, as a critical dimension to take forward the struggle for gender equality and women’s emancipation," said the Minister.
Lejweleputswa, one of the 5 district municipalities of the Free State province, wants to achieve calm in schools and have communities free from GBV.
