The long-awaited 2024 Matric results will be released on 15 January 2025, and this can feel like a make-or-break moment in many South African families. Whether met with celebration or disappointment, this milestone often carries intense emotional weight and may provoke mental health challenges such as anxiety or depression.

South African teachers are faced with immense challenges due to our country's unequal education system on a daily basis. These include overcrowded classrooms, scarce resources and inadequate psychosocial and specialised learning support services.

With the South African job market showing signs of recovery since 2022, the demand for managerial talent remains strong. The 2024 National List of Occupations in High Demand highlights the significant need for qualified talent across  various management roles,  including Financial, IT, Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Logistics, project and general managers.

The challenges faced by our higher institutions are no secret and are in fact not unique to South Africa. Higher education all over the world is in turmoil, facing challenges such as leadership crisis, unpaid debt and cut of courses to mention a few.

In the South African tertiary education landscape, Higher Certificate training plays an important role in providing bridging courses for school-leavers who are not yet ready for longer term studies, as well as stepping stones into entry-level positions for young job seekers. 

The increasing deployment of smart technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and algorithms across every area of human endeavour is changing work in unprecedented ways.  As fast as roles become extinct, new ones emerge. 

Matric is a major rite of passage for South African children. Thirteen wide-ranging and diverse years of school are suddenly distilled into one, all-important National Senior Certificate. Pass/Fail. With or without university exemption.

Launched in 2022, SACAP (the South African College of Applied Psychology) has now announced an enhancement to its Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which will be taking effect in the 2024 academic year.

Cascades of global economic, social, geopolitical and climate crises continue to overwhelm everyday life, and in response, our focus has turned inward and become deeply personal. In times of fast-paced, continuous disruption and turmoil, mental health, physical well-being, and a general sense of wellness have become greater priorities.

Across the country, around a million South African families have a young loved one preparing to write their final school exams. It’s a time loaded with significance and charged with hope and excitement, fear and anxiety.
