Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, NSFAS has removed the requirements for documents to be certified.
In 2024, Minister Blade Nzimande announced that documents no longer need to be submitted when applying for NSFAS, only the NSFAS consent form. You'll will only need to submit documents if you are requested to do so.
Such cases include:
- Students with disabilities must provide a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
- Applicants who are 34 years old or younger and whose parent-child relationship with the provided parents/guardian cannot be verified by NSFAS will need to submit a NSFAS Declaration form
- Other documents that may be required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes,....eg retrenchment letter

NSFAS is the National Student Financial Aid Scheme NSFAS which provides financial aid in the form of a bursary fund for higher education students through NSFAS.
