Sea Harvest Group is a major South African seafood and agriprocessing company. Founded in 1964 in Saldanha Bay on the West Coast of South Africa, it has grown into a vertically integrated business covering fishing, aquaculture, dairy, and consumer-food brands

Key facts:

  • The group catches wild seafood (e.g., Cape hake, horse mackerel) off South Africa’s coasts and processes it into frozen, chilled and value-added products.

  • It also has aquaculture operations (for example abalone farms) and a dairy/agriprocessing division producing products like cheese and milk-powder.

  • Sea Harvest has a strong sustainability and transformation focus: it holds a Level 1 B-BBEE status and places importance on community impact and environmental responsibility.

Operations

The company’s operations are wide-ranging:

  • Fishing fleet and on-board processing trawlers operating from ports like Saldanha Bay and Mossel Bay, catching deep water species at between 15 and 120 nautical miles offshore.

  • Processing facilities where fish is filleted, portioned, battered or crumbed for domestic retail and export markets.

  • Aquaculture business that farms species such as abalone, and an agriprocessing business producing dairy products.

  • International footprint: while headquartered in South Africa, operations include overseas production, exports and growth in adjacent markets.

Fishing giant Sea Harvest has opened applications for their Graduate Training programme looking for young graduates who want to work in the different departments across the country.

Sea Harvest is recruiting for their Learnership programme to allow young people to gain experience and training working in the coldstore environment at the company.
