As part of its commitment to building a pipeline of future African leaders, Standard Bank is investing in students who are passionate about shaping the continent’s future through excellence in fields such as science, technology, finance, agriculture, and behavioural economics.
What Does the Standard Bank Group Bursary Cover?
The bursary provides comprehensive financial support, including:
- Full tuition fees
- Accommodation in university residences or private housing (subject to cost limits)
- Meals, either through the university or self-catering
- Prescribed textbooks and study materials
- A laptop
- A monthly stipend for living expenses
- Transport between home and campus (four times a year via bus)
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary is available for students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in the following disciplines:
- Agriculture
- Commerce
- Engineering
- Mathematics
- Science: including Actuarial Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Science, and Information Science
- Statistics
- Technology: including Financial and Information Technology
- Behavioural Economics and related fields: Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience
Undergraduate Bursary Criteria
This bursary is available to students who:
- Are currently completing their first year of study and require funding for their second year onwards
- Are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate qualification in one of the fields listed above
- Have achieved a minimum average of 65% in their latest exams
- Are financially deserving
- Will be required to undergo a psychometric assessment and interview during the selection process
Postgraduate Bursary Criteria
The postgraduate bursary supports students who:
- Are enrolled in full-time postgraduate studies (up to Master’s level) at a public South African university
- Have achieved 65% or above in their most recent academic results
- Are financially deserving
- Will also complete a formal assessment, including psychometric testing and an interview
A Pathway to Employment
Upon completion of their studies, bursary recipients may be offered employment at Standard Bank Group. If offered, recipients are required to accept and commit to contributing their skills to one of Africa’s leading financial institutions.
