The BankSeta Higher Education Bursary Project provides financial assistance to eligible unemployed learners studying at public universities and public universities of technology in South Africa.
The bursary programme aims to improve access to higher education while developing a pipeline of suitably qualified individuals for the banking and alternative banking sectors. Funding supports approved qualifications aligned with priority occupations and emerging skills needs in the sector.
Through this initiative, the Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (BankSeta) seeks to advance skills development, transformation and economic growth by helping unemployed learners pursue relevant higher education qualifications.
Who Can Apply For BankSeta Bursary Funding?
BankSeta is inviting public universities and public universities of technology (UoTs) to apply for Discretionary Grant Funding to support eligible unemployed learners through bursaries.
The funding must be allocated in accordance with BankSeta's approved Discretionary Grant Policy.
The bursary funding window covers two categories of students:
- New enrolments: First-year students entering an approved programme of study and receiving BankSeta funding.
- Continuing students: Unemployed learners entering their second, third or final year of study.
The project is intended to support students pursuing approved qualifications that address skills shortages and priority occupations within the banking and alternative banking sectors.
