Parents in the Western Cape have been left devastated after not being able to place their children for the 2022 school year. Meanwhile, the provincial education department maintains that pupils who applied for 2021 have been placed.

 


New developments are said to be underway at DF Malan Hoerskool as the school has been in talks to settle on a new name. While many welcomed the name change, a group of parents, pupils, and academics started a Facebook group titled “Trots DF Malan ”  to gather support to retain the existing name. 


A Cape Town school, built on wet land, forces learners to wear gumboots even in hot weather conditions. Mzamomtsha Primary School was built in 1999 at Emfuleni near Khayelitsha in Cape Town.  


The Western Cape Education Department is calling on communities to take ownership of schools by protecting them. This follows reported incidents of vandalism, burglary and attempted burglary in 38 schools across the province during the July school holidays.


School children and teachers are being traumatised by high amount of gang violence in surrounding area. A sustainable solution in required to access the issue of gang violence.
