UCT is the University of Cape Town, the oldest university in South Africa and the mostly highly ranked in international surveys. It is situated on the slopes of Table Mountain and is home to more than 28 000 students and 4 000 staff members.  There are a number of different campuses around Cape Town. Application for study at UCT usually opens around April for the following calendar year, with registration during late January.


UCT student have finally been able to return to their rooms to pick up their belongings that were not damaged by the fire. With minimal extreme damage, UCT students and staff are lucky to find that most of their belongings were unharmed.

President of the UCT SRC has called out the university's management for its slow response to the recent Cape Town fires. 


The University of Cape Town is working to salvage what's left after a runaway fire on Table Mountain National Park devastated part of the campus including a library and two residences. 

 


University of Cape Town students are now able to return to their residences as UCT deems it is safe for them to make their way back. There is also more information on the other UCT buildings that have been severely affected by the Cape Town fire.


UCT is facing as massive loss as their library is completely destroyed by a fire. Officials are now on sight to assess the damage and discuss moving towards the restoration of the library. People are urged to donate to the #UCTFire emergency relief fund.


A UCT lecturer's comments about Adolf Hitler in a lecture to first year political studies students has lead to an investigation by the university - and many calls for Dr Lwazi Lushaba to be suspended. The lecturer, who is well known for his strident views, seemed to defend Hitler's genocide which lead to the execution of over 6 million people.


Universities such as the University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria and University of Free State have joined the Wits protest and are standing up against the police force. Higher Education protests became even louder following the death of an innocent bystander this week as a result of a police bullet.
