UCT is the University of Cape Town, the oldest university in South Africa and the mostly highly ranked in international surveys. It is situated on the slopes of Table Mountain and is home to more than 28 000 students and 4 000 staff members.  There are a number of different campuses around Cape Town. The University of Cape Town recently released a statement that its council approved, in principle, a compulsory vaccination policy. The institution becomes the first university to move towards instructed vaccination in order to access its campuses.  


While other higher learning institutions remain unclear about their position on whether vaccination of students and staff is a personal choice, UCT has taken a step forward. 


Mid-April was a tough month for the University of Cape Town (UCT) as the institution found itself engulfed in flames when a fire blazed through the slopes of table mountain. The Jagger Library was among the University's worst affected buildings by the fire.

The University of Cape Town Senate has voted for the mandatory vaccination of students and staff from January 2022.

The Western Cape government has identified the University of Cape Town as a vaccination site, and today 31 August 2021, they officially launched the programme at the institution.
