Across the world, the higher education sector is changing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Conversation Africa’s Nontobeko Mtshali asked vice-chancellors from three South African universities to share their insights about what these changes could mean for the country’s higher education landscape.

The South African Union of Students is speaking up against the two-tier education system that has come as a result of the Department's handling of Covid-19. Many differences were seen in how institutions were able to handle the move to online learning as some students have still not been provided with learning materials, data and devices to make online learning possible.

Deputy Minister, Buti Manamela, has recognised that the supply of data and laptops to students is important and is something that is urgently needed. He visited the University of Fort Hare and Buffalo City TVET College to see monitor the institution and how it's Covid-19 health and safety measures are being put in place.

Four individuals were arrested for stealing funds from Coastal TVET College in Kwazulu-Natal. These incidensts of fraud are calculated to have happened between the end of 2018 and 2019. Millions of rands were stolen from the institution.
