Due to backlogs and technical glitches, the Unemployment Insurance Fund has not paid almost a million UIF applicants and recipients. This sees many who have seen financial difficulty due to Covid-19 not receive payment from TERS funds. 

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has received reports of employers stealing payouts meant for their employees. Minister Thulas Nxesi released a statement about how the UIF will be dealing with this.

The Department of Employment and Labour has said that the Unemployment Insurance Fund is making progress with capturing and processing May Covid-19 relief benefit applications. They have also said that faster payments will be made.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) said they could not accept May applications due to a broken cable. These application were for the Temporary Employee/Employer Relief Scheme (TERS).

UIF has now changed their regulations and are paying funds directly into employees bank accounts. Also, it's been announced that employees will be able to apply for funding from the UIF themselves.
