Two pupils in Mpumalanga have been suspended for assaulting a fellow learner. It's claimed the assault occurred after the pupil refused to join a group, known as Izikhothane.


The Department of Basic Education has set its sights on combating the prevalence of teen pregnancies in schools across the country. It plans to achieve this by introducing a number of programs targeted at Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and bolstering those that are already in place.


The Basic Education Portfolio Committee says that it is concerned about vandalism at schools. The Gauteng Education Department reported eleven schools were vandalised during the recent unrest and looting.
