After speculation came that the October school holidays might be cancelled to make up for lost time, the department saw many objections. Now, the October school holidays remain in place.


The Department of Basic Education has given further insight into why they are considering cancelling the upcoming October school holidays. Unions and parents have come out and spoken against this potential move by the department.


A decrease is now being seen in Northern Cape schools with the number of Covid cases being reported. Schools across the country are currently battling with a rise in Covid cases.


There has recently been speculation that the Department of Basic Education was threatening teachers who were not getting vaccinated and they were told they would be fired. The Department has now addressed this so keep reading to find out whether this is just another bout of fake news or if it's true.


As learners have their first day of school for the third term, the Western Cape Education Department reports that 80% of it's school staff has been vaccinated. The basic education sector kicked off their vaccine rollout on 23 June.


The education sector has seen some bumps here and there with it's vaccination rollout but Minister Motshekga has said that there won't be a shortage of doses for the sector. Their goal is to vaccinate 583 000 people by 8 July.


Teachers have finally received some response to the many calls for their vaccinations to be priortised. However, no date has been set for when these vaccinations will take place.


Government, unions and the public are shifting their focus to teachers being vaccinated with more vaccination sites opening soon for teachers. Government is said to have secured thousands of vaccine doses for teachers.


The Department of Basic Education is now calling for teachers over 60 to go and register to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. The country is currently in Phase 2 of it's vaccine rollout to protect against Covid-19.
