The Western Cape Education Department says they are pleased with the work that has been done by education and general assistants as part of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI). 


Approximately, 950 000 Teacher Assistant applications were received, however, due to limited resources and places available not all successful applicants were accepted.

The second phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative is currently underway. Approximately 287 000 young unemployed individuals were placed at schools and given employment and training opportunities in the Education sector.


The education assistants who were recruited as part of the Basic Education Employment Initiative have officially stepped into schools and started work. This initiative is said to be helping the youth of South Africa in various ways.


Those hired as teacher assistants through the Basic Education Employment Initiative will be commencing with work this week. The initiative will run for a few months.
