Recently the DA called for legal and disciplinary action against the 40 000 state workers who applied for the R350 Covid-19 relief grant while they were still earning full salaries. The Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu responded saying that she agrees that action must be taken against these individuals as they acted selfishly.

As of February 2021, more than 36 000 government employees applied for R350 SASSA grants, even though they were permanently employed.
