Grade 12 learners will begin their final year examinations earlier than usual due to local government elections taking place on the 1st of November. Following multiple meetings with stakeholders and the council of education ministers, the decision was made.


Western Cape’s Education Department is now urging those Matriculants who are eligible to get vaccinated as the Matric final exams approach. Recently, the Department of Basic Education released the final Matric exam timetable.

May/June examinations for Matriculants has now been concluded. The Department of Basic Education has now said when results for these exams will be released as well as other details.

The National Professional Teacher's Organisation, what we know as NAPTOSA, has welcomed a decision by the Department of Basic Education to cancel mid-year exams for Grade 12 pupils. This is being done to afford learners more class time. 


The Department of Basic Education has decided to cancel the May/June Matric examinations. Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, announced this during a Portfolio Committee meeting and gave insight into why this move is being made.


With thousands of candidates now sitting down to write their May/June Matric exams, which includes Matric rewrites, this year’s numbers are said to be lower than previous years. The May/June exam season commenced on 26 May.
