The Department of Basic Education's Minister, Angie Motshekga, signed off and released the latest school calendar set for 2022.  The calendar breaks down how the department will divide school work over the course of 43 weeks.


The Department of Basic Education has released a proposed 2023 school calendar which shows that learners will have a total of 203 days of school attendance. The 2023 academic year is scheduled to begin on January 11 for schools located in inland provinces and from January 18for schools in coastal provinces.

Relief washed over many parents after it was said that Early Childhood Development centres would remain open during Level 4 lockdown. Schools in the country have now been closed for the winter break.


You can have social events at your house again - but no more than 10 people can attend! That's just one of the new rules that apply under lockdown level 2. Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has outlined the details of the regulations for level 2 of lockdown - including the sale of alcohol and tobacco again.


There has been much confusion since the President announced a break for public schools but a government gazette has now been released. It gives a weekly breakdown running from 27 July to 31 August. It shows the weekly return of grades and the tasks that principals and school management teams will have as more learners continue to be phased in.
