Parents and Guardians from Gauteng who are yet to submit their 2023 online school admission applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 have a limited amount of time to do so. The department has so far processed thousands of applications, as the deadline nears. 

Since the commencement of the 2023 Online School Admissions for Grades 1 and 8, the Gauteng Education Department (GDE) has reported successful application turnout figures. Applications are set to close in less than two weeks.

Minister Angie Motshekga warned implementing agents for the school infrastructure projects that the time for excuses has come to an end. A meeting was held with these agents to address the matter.

As the academic year started, it was revealed that student debt was weighing heavily on South African universities. Recently, the University of South Africa (Unisa) has received a donation to ease student debt.

Following a controversial incident that resulted in the suspension of a school's deputy principal, the KwaZulu-Natal education department has announced the recruitment of an acting principal at the school.
