ECD

ECD stands for Early Childhood Development. ECD is a comprehensive approach to programmes and policies for children from birth to nine years of age with the active participation of their parents and caregivers.


The Basic Education Department is set to take over the functioning of Early Childhood Development (ECD) from the Department of Social Development in April next year. 


Vaccinations of the Early Childhood Development sector has now kicked off with some provinces having a delayed start. They aim to vaccinate almost 250 000 in the span of a few days. 


Big changes in the Social Development and Basic Education sector are coming as Early Childhood Development will now form part of Basic Education. The new development comes after a number of reasons were discussed, read further to learn more.


Relief washed over many parents after it was said that Early Childhood Development centres would remain open during Level 4 lockdown. Schools in the country have now been closed for the winter break.


The Department of Social Development (DSD) has said that that Early Childhood Development services who have applied and qualified for the ECD Employment Stimulus Relief Fund will be receiving their payments soon.

 


The Department of Social Development will be making payments to beneficiaries of the Early Childhood Development Employment - Stimulus Relief Grant (ECD-ESRF) within in the next week. 


The Early Childhood Development - Employment Stimulus Relief Fund deadline has been extended by the Department of Social Development. A new webform has also been made available to assist with applications.


During the COVID-19 pandemic, Early Childhood Development has been the key concern.


Early Childhood Development Centres have also been greatly affected by the pandemic, especially when it comes to having the funds to keep them running. Now, they are struggling with applying for relief through Government.


Social Development decided to use R496 million to assist the Early Childhood Development sector as part of their relief measures to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on the sector.
