Due to backlogs and technical glitches, the Unemployment Insurance Fund has not paid almost a million UIF applicants and recipients. This sees many who have seen financial difficulty due to Covid-19 not receive payment from TERS funds.

The Department of Employment and Labour has said that the Unemployment Insurance Fund is making progress with capturing and processing May Covid-19 relief benefit applications. They have also said that faster payments will be made.

UIF has now changed their regulations and are paying funds directly into employees bank accounts. Also, it's been announced that employees will be able to apply for funding from the UIF themselves.

The UIF has come under fire as some employees are not receiving their money from relief funds. However, UIF says they are not at fault and has released a list of companies who receive money from TERS to the public.

Government has set up relief schemes through the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) to assist individuals with finances during the pandemic which sees many businesses have to temporarily close their doors. However, freelancers cannot benefit from these grants
