If you are a part of the 7 million SRD applicants and have been rejected for the grant, you are eligible to appeal the outcome of your application.

If your application has been rejected and you disagree with the outcome of your application, you may lodge an appeal on Sassa's website within a period not exceeding 90 days of the date of the decision.

In a statement, the Act states:

It is advisable when lodging an appeal, the applicant or the person acting on his or her behalf may not submit any evidence or information which was not provided to the Agency at the time of the application.

An Independent Tribunal will consider the appeal by reassessing the decision that will then be taken by Sassa against the available information at its disposal and has the powers to either confirm or set aside the decision of the Agency.

This Tribunal will then finalise the appeal within 90 days from the date on which the appeal was received and will electronically communicate the decision to the applicant.

Sibeko also shared that the department’s current budget caters to 10.5 million people per month.

While more than 18 million people live below the food poverty line of R625 a month and 13 million have no income at all.
