The Special Covid-19 R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was recently reintroduced by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in order to provide financial relief to those vulnerable to poverty and in need of state of support during the pandemic.

SASSA has received more than 13 million applications and while most of them were approved and some beneficiaries received their grant payments others are still awaiting theirs.

Beneficiaries were encouraged to check their application status online to see whether there were any issues with their application.

The application status tells beneficiaries at which stage their application is at.

If you have seen "Aug Declined" on your application status it means that your application was declined for the August period and SASSA will have stated a reason as to why the application was declined.

One common reason for applicants being declined is due to being 'IRP5 Registered' or the system will tell SASSA that they receive UIF funds which would make them ineligible for the R350 grant. If this happens and applicants find that the reason stated is untrue then they may appeal.

SASSA will reconsider your application once you have appealed their decision.

Applicants only have 30 days after their SRD grant is declined to submit a R350 grant appeal.

Applicants are able to appeal their declined application if they feel that the reason stated was invalid, by doing the following:

  1. Go to the SRD Grant website
  2. Scroll down to 'Application for reconsideration'
  3. Click on the yellow bar
  4. Fill in the required fields

After you have submitted your R350 grant appeal, you will then want to track it. Here's how:

  1. Go to the SRD Grant website
  2. Scroll down to 'Click here to apply online or check reconsideration status'
  3. Click on the yellow bar
  4. Fill in the required fields
  5. You will now be able to view your information

The outcome of your appeal will be relayed through SMS.
