The Swales Online Academy portal contains everything learners may need to progress in education without any barriers. The school takes an innovative and nurturing approach to teaching.

Swales Online Academy aims to promote self-paced learning and encourage learners to study any time and anywhere.

The curriculum is available to learners via the Swales Online Academy portal. Similar to a regular school, the teachers are available full-time to help learners through each subject.

Learners may access one on one support and essential learning materials on the virtual teaching platform. Parents may use the platform to view their child’s progress and communicate with the teachers.

The academy makes use of innovative teaching methodologies that embrace the principles of STEM education. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. 

Through endorsement from Durban High School, Swales Online Academy provides pre-recorded video lessons and live masterclass sessions with specialist educators at a fraction of the average cost of education.

Grade 4 to 11 learners are accommodated at the school. The school is divided into 3 groups:

Grade 4 to 6:

  • English
  • Afrikaans (FAL)
  • isiZulu (FAL)
  • Science and Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Life Orientation
  • Social Sciences

All subjects are offered in English. Live classes are offered, however, each grade receives a certain percentage of live classes, eg. Grade 4 receives 80%, Grade 5 receives 60% and Grade 6 receives 40% of live classes.

The remainder of the classes includes structured lessons that were designed by highly qualified teachers. 

Grade 7 to 9:

  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • EMS
  • Technology
  • Creative Arts
  • Life Orientation

All subjects are offered in English. Lessons are designed according to the complexity of the subject and consist of live and structured independent lessons. Structured lessons include recorded lessons with relevant classwork and quizzes.

Grade 10 to 11:

  • Accounting
  • Business Studies
  • Computer Applications Technology
  • English Home Language
  • Geography
  • History
  • isiZulu (FAL)
  • Life Orientation
  • Life Sciences
  • Mathematics/ Mathematical Literacy

New subjects are added every year. Lessons include live lessons with subject specialist teachers and structured independent lessons.
